Kerry Trask to sign books at LaDeDa Books & Beans June 20

Kerry Trask, history professor emeritus, University on Wisconsin-Green Bay, Manitowoc campus, will visit Manitowoc’s LaDeDa Books & Beans, 1624 New York Ave., from 10:30 a.m. to noon June 20 for a meet-and-greet book-signing.

In celebration of Manitowoc’s 150th anniversary, Trask will sign copies of “Fire Within: A Civil War Narrative from Wisconsin.”

According to James McPherson, author of “Battle Cry of Freedom”: “This remarkable book blends the experiences of several young Wisconsin men who fought in the Civil War with the course of events back home in Manitowoc. Using the letters and diaries of both soldiers and civilians, the author deftly handles the organizational problems of recounting military campaigns on several fronts as well as the travails of civilians on the home front. Written with verve, the narrative sweeps along the reader, who finds it hard to put down the book until the fate of the protagonists is finally revealed.”

Trask is known for his enthusiastic historical narratives, bringing history alive though college lectures and at numerous invited speaking engagements. He has written several books and scholarly offerings.

A limited number of books will be available for purchase and signing. Anyone wanting a book but unable to attend the event can reserve a copy by calling LaDeDa Books & Beans at 920-682-7040
