One of the most highly-regarded literary magazines in the country has chosen a poem by BEI Fellow Todd Davis as their Poem of the Week. For the past 40 years, The Missouri Review (TMR) has helped shape the contemporary literary scene by publishing the best writers and brightest new voices.
It is not surprising that “Taxidermy: Cathartes aura” was chosen by TMR, with its beauty and powerful imagery. This intensely moving piece was difficult to write, says the author. He continues, “Twice when I was a boy I escaped sexual predators and the violence they sought to perpetrate… The boy in this poem represents who I might have been if I had not been spared such violence.” We are proud that our fellows take on such difficult and complex topics, making them approachable and starting a dialog, through which we can all begin to heal.
