BEI Emeritus Fellow Mary Swander Presents at Clinton Book Festival

Event details

  • Saturday | August 27, 2016
  • 10:00 am
  • 105 Main Avenue | Clinton, Iowa 52732

The festival, labeled as a celebration of books, reading and the book arts will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the main library. The event is geared toward readers and book enthusiasts of all ages, with emphasis on literary talent from Clinton and surrounding Iowa-Illinois Gateway area communities.

This year’s festival, library Director Brad Wiles said, will be held in honor of Bob Seger, director of the Clinton Public Library from 1977-1992. He died earlier this year and Wiles said the library wanted to acknowledge his contributions to the cultural vibrancy of the community that extended well beyond his tenure at the library. The festival will commence with a brief memorial for Seger.

In addition to many locals, a number of regional and national literary personalities have been confirmed, including Iowa poet laureate Mary Swander, mystery author Donald Harstad, and romance author Leigh Michaels. Several panel presentations will be held on the second floor of the Clinton Public Library discussing children’s literature, historical fiction and self-publishing.

The main author area will be under a tented space in the library parking lot and will feature more than 30 writers, publishers and organizations. Food will be available for purchase onsite and the Friends’ Underground Bookstore will be open for the duration of the festival. Visit the Clinton Public Library website or Facebook page for more program information.
