Kathleen Sweeney’s work lies at the intersection of video, text, and social change. As a web content producer, she works with authors, artists and non-profit organizations to locate the unique DNA of their stories through web clips, book trailers, and documentaries. Her video art has exhibited internationally at South by Southwest, Walker Art Center, DiVA/New York, and other venues. At The New School, New York, her media studies courses map trends in viral media, art activism, comedy and superheroes. A contributor to Publishing Perspectives, Afterimage and Women and Hollywood, she has been featured on NPR, Gannett News and Womanity.com and is the author of Maiden USA: Girl Icons Come of Age, a post-90s chronicle of pop culture. Her screenplay, The Lodestar, was shortlisted for the Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab. An advocate for youth mediamakers, she has produced multimedia projects at DIA: Beacon, Girls Inc., and Reel Grrls, and served as Guest Editor on It’s Your Planet—Love It! published by the Girl Scouts. She currently serves on the Advisory Boards for GirlsWriteNow and SheWrites.
